The 3foodeteers walked down memory lane as we drove past the old HUET training centre in Kelana Jaya. And at the end of the road, there is a famous restaurant - Lala Chong!
Syabil: Arriving early (7pm) at the restaurant really paid off. Ample parking, and speedy food arrival.

The Lala Kam Heong. Expertly executed. Flawless. |
We ordered a few things from the menu. The first to arrive at the table was the Lala Kam Heong.
It was perfectly executed. The lala was fresh and not overcooked, the seasoning and spices were amazing. And the udang kering (dried tiny shrimps, part of the ingredients) was crunchy and full of flavor. It added a contrast to the texture in the dish.

The Chili Crab. Despite being recommended the buttermilk crab, we ordered this. |
Nina: Not long after the arrival of the Lala, the crabs came to the table. We ordered chilli crab, despite butter crab being the suggested dish.
The crabs were also fresh, and since Syabil gave me his portion of the claw, I took full satisfaction in enjoying the dish. Chilli crab dish as a whole at this restaurant is not that impressive at first. It is sweet, sour and hot chilli notes hit the tastebuds when I bit into the chilli pieces. But after a while, it got better. Especially if you enjoy it with the fried buns. We highly recommend these warm, soft and buttery fried buns. They went very well with the chilli crab gravy, and other gravies!

Salted Egg Mantis Prawn. It's the foodeteers' love of a lifetime. |
Shireen: The foodeteers has a thing for salted egg mantis prawn. Seriously. So, when this dish hit the table, we almost did not get a picture of it.
This restaurant made excellent salted egg mantis prawn. It was fresh, crunchy, not overly salty, and they came in good huge chunks - giving the satisfaction in each bite.

The Buttermilk Prawn. Satisfying to every bite! |
Faizal: Finally, what I was expecting the most came to the table - buttermilk prawn.
The gravy of this dish also went superb with the fried buns. It is creamy and buttery, but not overly done. The hint of curry leaves is subtle and not strong. The prawns were huge, fresh and juicy. I just wish they can make the dish a bit more creamier and more flavorful.
The drinks here are OK. We recommend the honeydew squeeze.
All in all, we are satisfied with Lala Chong.
We drove back home with a smile on our faces.
