Salon Du Chocolat @ Publika, Solaris Dutamas

Quick rating:
Taste: 8.5/10 or 6/10 (for Peja)
Service: 9.5/10
Value for money: 6.5/10

Last Friday, after the whole day of hard work serving for the nation, 3foodeteers end up with empty tummy (which all of us has a big one) hence we all decided to head our way to Publika in Solaris Dutamas for our favourite Boat Noodle. We were damn hungry that we forgotten to snap any pics at the Boat Noodle. After 5 bowl of boat noodle each person, we still weren't satisfied and we then craved for something sweet. So we went around and bomp to this place named Salon Du Chocolat. Seems tempting with long queue of Homo Sapiens outside the shop. We decided to leave at first as we are not really keen to queue up but the waiter suddenly call us as they have a table with the right number of seats available for us. We right away thought its because they know we are 3foodeteers., despite the fact that we just started the blog. Oh God, these 3 kids are really into themselves. Lol.

Bunch of tempting menu, but pretty similar to other existing choco shops in KL. But relatively cheaper.

Peja being the choco maniac chose the brownies crepe (Rm 24.50) which was a crepe-wrapped thin brownies overlain with loads of chocolate sauce! Heavenly looking.

Layer of brownies inside the crepe.

Surprisingly, Peja despite of being know for his madness on chocolate, he doesn't like the crepe. For him the eggy taste from the crepe is too strong while the chocolate taste from the sauce is not strong enough to overcome the eggy taste. Syabil and Shireen like it so much as the sauce is not too sweet while Nina (Syabil's GF) is just natural it.

Shireen ordered Chocolate Crepe (RM14.90) which is exactly the same thing as what Peja had, just without the brownies inside.

Still, Peja were not really impressed while Shireen and Syabil love it so much. Well, like any other chocolate shops, they use the same sauce for all the food in the menu. Hence, of course Peja's opinion wont change on this one.

Lastly Nina ordered Brownies with Ice Cream (16,50) which is a piece of brownies with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, poured with all three types of chocolate sauce.

Yummy!!

To our surprise, Peja like this one. Despite the mild taste of the chocolate sauce, the strong choco flavor from the brownies really compliment the sauce very well. The combination of the brownies, The brownies, chocolate sauce and the vanilla ice cream melting all together in your mouth at once,.... I don't know how to describe it. Go and taste it yourselves la. Haha. We assure you it wont be a regret. This is what we call a heavenly combination.

Syabil on the other hand, instead of ordering any food, he ordered two drinks (yes, he is one greedy monster) which were the Hot Chocolate Drink (RM18) and Turkish Coffee.

Hot Chocolate

Turkish Coffee

The chocolate drink was great despite the fact that Peja's still whining on their mild chocolate taste. The Turkish Coffee on the other hand was a total disaster according to Syabil (Peja and Shireen has no idea what he meant as we are both coffee dummy). According to him, probably the coffee was not stirred contantly during brewing which cause the coffee power to accumulate at the bottom of the cup. The falvor was off, blunt and lacks of usual bitterness, spicyness and even chocolate notes, even after the ground has settled.

In a nutshell, we think the food is great if you're dont really like sweet stuff. But for those folks who love strong chocolate taste like Peja, this might not be the best place for you.

Red Lobster @ The Intermark

Quick rating:
Taste: 8.5/10
Service: 9.5/10
Value for money: 6.5/10

On a good Sunday, Three Foodeteers sailed out to hunt for lobsters. We stopped at Red Lobster seafood restaurant at The Intermark Jalan Tun Razak. A 1kg Maine lobster became victim in the hunt.

Syabil: I like the service at this place. Warm greetings at the entrance, exclusive ambience restaurant, comfortable seats and tables.

I had the English Clam Chowder for starter. It is rich and creamy, with generous chunks of clams and potatoes. It goes perfectly with the complimentary Cheddar Bay biscuits (delicious warm, soft and buttery bread like biscuit, comes FOC at the restaurant).

Nina: I had the Lobster Bisque soup as my starter. It is rich and creamy, with significant pumpkin taste alternating with the taste of lobster. It also went super well with the complimentary biscuits.
For main course, we had the crispy calamari and a roasted live maine lobster.

The crispy calamari is good, served with crispy deep fried bell peppers and dippings.
But the main highlight was the Maine Lobster. First they weighted the live lobster, then put it on a tray and present it to us, in all its glory.
The lobster is moving on the tray while the waiter asked us on how to cook it. Feels kinda cool.
Then they cooked the lobster. We ordered for a grilled lobster, with crabmeat stuffings. Look at the size of its claw! We took a picture with a scale for reference.
The lobster was good. Well prepared with stuffing that really filled us up. They shucked the lobster for us so it was easy breezy. The highlight was the garlic butter dipping, a perfect way to add more fat factor to the lobster dish.

However, this was not our first lobster in KL. For RM 27 per 100 grams, and our lobster was 1kg plus, we paid over RM300 for just the lobster.

I (Nina) personally thinks that if on the account of having lobster alone, Red Lobster restaurant is not the place. Yes it prepares the lobster in some fancy stuffed style and "america-size" the dish with garlic butter dipping, but for the sake of enjoying lobster alone, I can recommend another place.

I recommend readers to try the lobster at Chinoz in the Park @ KLCC instead. The lobster there is cheaper, at only RM 155 flat. About the same size as Lobsters at the Red Lobster. But they grill it, with no stuffing. And they did not come outside and show you the live lobster.

However overall we still recommend readers to dine at the Red Lobster. The soup is great, the FOC biscuit is awesome, the other combos are fine and the service is out of this world. But to eat just lobsters, there are better places.

We left the restaurant feeling full and blessed.

Metal Box Cafe, Empire Damansara

The 3 foodeteers launched the first attack on Metal Box Cafe @ Empire Damansara. 5 main dishes, 1 dessert, and 3 drinks were destroyed in the carnage, along with countless glasses of FOC plain water.

The menu with price list for you guys to check-it-out!

Nina: The cafe was nice and clean, with coffee aroma inviting people in. It is slightly crowded - the way the tables are arranged. But maybe they are aiming for some open intimacy kind of vibe.

Shireen: It is a good place to hang out. Some people really gave no care about people waiting to be seated, and continue to chat and hang out after finishing their meals.

Syabil + Nina: We had The Metal Breakfast(for Syabil) and Metal-Box Baked Egg(Nina's), then we ordered Smokey Chicken Pesto. First of all the portion was good. And the food was delicious!

Metal-Box Baked Egg

We think it is mainly due to the ingredients used by them, fresh and not some mass produced stuff. Makes us realize how the hipsters look at life.

The wurst, the beef bacon, the egg, the chicken, the beans and even the cherry tomatoes are not the common ones that we eat at our common brunch places.

The pesto was good. It is basic, wholesome yet no too fulfilling. It sort of leave the diner hanging, like a cliffhanger telemundo episode.

The coffee was good. It is very aromatic, and they took much care in preparing the latte. The milk was steamed perfectly, and it somehow enhances the bittersweet taste of the coffee, and eliminated the resonating bitter taste that should have occur in the finish.

Shireen: I tried several items on the menu, starting with Hemingway, which is a smoked salmon served with poached eggs on the bed of fresh made croissant. Not much different from the usual smoked salmon, but the fresh made, soft croissant gave it a twist.

I like the Beef Ragout Pasta, something different which I never tried before. It's like a pasta served with soupy kind of meat sauce, so yum u must try when u visit this cafe!

For dessert we had a Salted Caramel Apple Crumble. Solid stuff! The Apple Crumble was good, maybe too sweet for Syabil hehe but the overall the combination of apple crumble together with vanilla ice cream was the perfect end for today's brunch.

We left the cafe feeling satisfied.
